Enjoy perks at Central Park & beyond

A new program lets you support and enjoy New York City's parks while earning perks at other places. In this "Be Part of Your Park" series, Eyewitness News reporter Nina Pineda looks at these family memberships.

In toddler-ese, 2-year-old Maxwell Tahl is explaining all the ways he and his baby sister will enjoy Central Park this year. His parents bought a new family membership to the conservancy.

Together they will support the non-profit which takes care of the park and get a whole host of perks.

"You can really take a sense of ownership of the park ... great pride in knowing that your support will help protect the park as your children grow," said Cheryl Neldon of Central Park Conservancy.

The new programs cost $125 dollars and is valid for two adult and two kids under 12.

Parents get a membership card which offers discounts to restaurants, hotels, spas and cultural institutions participating in the Central Park Perks program.

Families can also discounts at the amusement park set up at the Wollman Skating Rink.

The membership includes:

  • Complimentary admission to special events at the Victorian Gardens Ride Park
  • VIP seating for family nights during theater and film festivals
  • Free breakfast at the Harlem Meer fishing jamboree
  • Discounts at camp sessions
  • Invitations to special tours and programs year round.
