Eyewitness News is told the two were killed, and a third left in critical condition, when the vehicles collided eastbound Route 3 at Route 17 in East Rutherford just before 10:10 p.m. last night. One of the vehicles, a dump truck, careened into the highway median.

Three others were treated at the hospital and another another 23 treated and released.

The crash cleanup closed eastbound Route 3 for much of the morning commute.

The sudden freeze on area roads last night is believed to have caused the crash.

A car reportedly crashed also, into a toll booth on the southbound Garden State Parkway at the Barnegat tolls in Barnegat just after 1:15 a.m. this morning, killing one person.
