A driver was fatally struck by a passing car after getting out of his vehicle following an accident on the New Jersey Turnpike in Newark Wednesday morning. Authorities say the 51-year-old victim's southbound vehicle went out of control on the Turnpike's inner roadway near Interchange 14. His car slammed into the guardrail and spun out, coming to a rest in the right shoulder.

When he got out of his vehicle to inspect his damage, police say he was struck by a passing car.

His body was reportedly thrown into the left and center lanes, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the man pulled over.

Authorities closed the Turnpike's southbound inner roadway for the ensuing investigation, causing traffic delays.
