Girl rescued from Plattekill fire

PLATTEKILL The Plattekill Fire Department says two firefighters rescued a 14-year-old girl trapped in the basement during the blaze, which drew more than 100 firefighters.

Plattekill Fire Chief Chris Mancuso says neighbors called in the fire Friday evening.

Firefighters say the house is a total loss.

One firefighter was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh, where he was treated for smoke inhalation and released. The other firefighter suffered minor injuries resulting from a fall and opted not to be taken to the hospital.

The 14-year-old was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation, but refused further medical attention.

Due to the extent of the damage, the exact cause of the fire was hard to determine but was ruled accidental, Mancuso said.
