106-year-old has hip replacement surgery

NEW YORK Orthopaedic surgeon Doctor Arnold Wilson says he performed the replacement surgery on the woman who he describes as "physically like an 80-year-old."

He says in a statement that he plans to talk further about the surgery at his office in the Bronx later today.

Wilson says that Finaldi was in tremendous pain when she broke her hip but that the successful surgery enables her to be pain-free. And he says she'll be able to walk again soon with physical therapy.

Total replacement surgery swaps out the old femur with a metal ball and resurfaces the hip socket in the pelvic bone.
