Governor Jon Corzine's plan to raise tolls to pay off state debt isn't going over well with many taxpayers. A poll shows 52 percent oppose it. Forty-two percent of the respondents to a survey conducted by The Record of Bergen County support the proposal and 6 percent said they're undecided.

Most would rather see cuts in state programs and even layoffs first. The poll finds 78 percent of those questioned would going in that direction.

There is some good news for the governor: Some 54 percent of the respondents say the governor's toll restructuring plan would have no effect on their decision whether to support him if he seeks re-election.

Corzine is holding a town meeting on the plan in Hackensack tonight.
