Reinforcements continued to show up for this fire well into the evening, as it went to four alarms. We are standing about a block away from the blaze, we are between Frederick Douglass and Adam Clayton Powell Boulevards on 113th Street.
This was an intense fire, flames shooting up into the sky as firefighters tried to get it under control.
There are some unconfirmed reports that some residents had to be rescued from fire escapes on the building. So far, no official word on that from the FDNY.
The situation appeared to be getting under control by about 6:30 p.m., and the crews were turning to mopup duty, which will take some work with the intensity of this fire.
