Two dozen pets rescued from Brentwood home

BRENTWOOD The Suffolk County SPCA was called Monday night and a number of cats, dogs, hamsters, birds and turtles were removed from the house. The elderly woman who lived in the house, was not home at the time. She was not identified.

SPCA Captain Robert Abersano says the house was covered in animal feces and urine.

Brentwood Fire Chief John Carney says the odor had to be pretty strong because the firefighters were wearing breathing packs when they were overcome by the animal odors.

The firefighters were treated at a local hospital and released.

The animals have been taken to Islip Town Animal Shelter.
