More than 30 people homeless after 3-alarm fire

On Long Island, officials are investigating the cause of a three-alarm fire that left 31 people homeless in Hempstead Saturday morning.The fire broke out just after 2:15 a.m. in a multiple-family home on Miller Place.

No word as to whether smoke detectors were present, but residents of the building were able to escape without injury.

The fire heavily damaged the second and third floors. The red cross is providing shelter for the victims of the fire.
