A New Jersey state police trooper was injured when his patrol car flipped off the Garden State Parkway in Middletown Tuesday morning. Authorities say the northbound patrol car left the roadway near mile marker 111.5 and flipped several times into the woods.

The trooper was reportedly conscious and alert when he was rushed by helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

He sustained a broken leg and facial injuries, officials said. The injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The northbound local lanes were closed so the helicopter could land, causing heavy delays in the area. The roadway was opened several hours later.
