The wife of a retired New York Police Department sergeant was arrested Tuesday and charged with shooting him to death.Authorities say 49-year-old Raymond Sheehan was shot at least once in the torso shortly before 1 p.m. Monday in the couple's Queens home. Police say his 46-year-old wife has been arrested on murder and weapons charges.

Barbara Sheehan did not enter a plea during her arraignment on second-degree murder charges in Queens Criminal Court.

A judge ordered Barbara Sheehan held without bail. Her next court date is February 28.

Investigators say the gun used in the Howard Beach shooting belonged to the retired sergeant. They say an ongoing domestic dispute might have led to the shooting.

The sergeant retired from the police department in 2002.
