Man arrested in fatal LI hit and run

Accident took place last July
NEW YORK Nassau County police homicide squad detectives on Wednesday arrested Mayer Sadian, of 8 Russell Street in Roslyn Heights, in connection with the death of Dr. Jeffrey Siegel, of Old Westbury.

Detectives said Siegel was crossing Mineola Avenue in Roslyn Heights when he was fatally struck by a speeding car on Friday July 6, 2007 at about 8 p.m.

Witnesses told police that the driver of a 2000 Honda fled toward Northern Boulevard and gave them a partial plate number. Dr. Siegel, who was 48, died at the scene of the accident.

Investigators found the car about two weeks later less than two miles from the crime scene and said it was registered to a woman in Roslyn Heights. At the time they appealed to the public for help identifying the driver.

Sadian was ordered held without bail after he pleaded not guilty to second-degree manslaughter.

Sadian's attorney Michael Dowd, of Manhattan, said outside of First District Court in Hempstead that he'll seek a plea deal.
