LIRR bathrooms get stinky rating

NEW YORK An annual customer survey gave the LIRR high marks. Its overall 2007 score was a 6.7 on a scale of 0 to 10 -- up from 6.6 in 2006. That's the second-highest score ever since 1993's score of 6.8.

But bathroom cleanliness suffered. Riders gave the LIRR a score of 4.9.

LIRR President Helena Williams says she's aware of poorly ventilated restrooms at Penn Station. Renovation of Penn's bathrooms, including the ventilation, is scheduled to begin in July.
