The crash happened around 8 p.m. and began with a jackknifed tractor-trailer.
Authorities say a salt truck and a tow truck responding to the scene both slid into a fire truck already there.
The incident happened on the northbound side, but there are overturned vehicles on the southbound side from the crash.
All injuries appear to be minor, but one adult and one child from separate cars were taken to the hospital.
Meanwhile, on Route 1 Southbound in Linden, a three-car accident has left a pregnant woman in critical condition.
Officials say two of the cars struck head on.
