A third-alarm fire burned through a row house in Jersey City Thursday morning. Authorities say the fire broke out inside 467 Palisades Avenue just before 10:30 a.m. Flames and smoke spewed out of the three-story building.

One firefighter reportedly suffered an ankle injury on a rear fire escape. No civilians were hurt.

Arson investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.

A Good Samaritan walking by the building saw the smoke and raced into the building, knocking on doors to get people out.

The fire put a major strain on the Jersey City Fire Department, which was also battling a two-alarm fire on Magnolia Avenue at the same time. Mutual aid companies from five surrounding communities backed up Jersey City's fire department.
