YouTube fight lands teens in jail

OSSINING It's another case of kids taping criminal acts and then getting caught. This fight happened in Ossining.

Eyewitness News reporter Michelle Charlesworth has more.

This attack on an 18-year-old showed up on YouTube and has since been removed. It is filled with violence, profanity and the faces of four young men who police say have since been arrested and charged with first-degree assault.

"Once we became aware of it, we began interviewing people immediately," Ossining Detective Lieutenant William Sullivan said. "And we came up with these four names."

Police say the video was shot on a cell phone and posted later. The attack happened in the middle of the day, in the middle of town, in a church parking lot.

"That's where they went to fight," Sullivan said. "It was an open lot near the high school...They went there to speak about an ongoing argument...believed to be about a young girl."

There was also a different girl on video, punched in the face. She and the male victim are both fine, according to police.

"Apparently, there was a knife involved," Sullivan said. "One of the victims did suffer a minor cut to his neck."

Police are still investigating whose knife it was. YouTube, famous for making ordinary people famous, now takes a turn with the infamous: Crime stopping. If convicted, these teens, charged as adults, could see up to seven years in prison.
