Funeral was held for 3 children slain on LI

Leatrice Brewer charged
NEW YORK "To see three kids laid up in there. I can't talk," said a woman.

Too painful for words this family friend tells us describing the image of 18-month-old innocent laying in the same casket with her older sister Jewel and brother Michael ages 5 and 6. Saturday the three children who died together were laid to rest together.

Susie Jackson remembers her niece Jewell.

"She was outgoing, very friendly, and everything," said great aunt, Susie Jackson.

Hundreds of family and friends came to Saint Johns Baptist Church to say their final farewell.

Police say the three children were murdered by their mother Leatrice Brewer Sunday. Cops allege she attacked Jewell with an 8-inch knife and drowned her siblings in the bathtub.

"The only thing we can do is pray for her," said friend Mamiett Tucker. "The kids are safe now. That's how we look at it"

Now as these three young children are laid to rest some are asking could their murders have been prevented?

"I can't blame the family, you can't blame one person. It's everybody," said friend Lillie McCray. "There were people all around."

Nassau County executive Thomas Suozzi attended the funeral. He's ordered an investigation into how previous neglect allegations against brewer were handled.

Brewer, 27-year-old, faces first and second degree murder charges.
