Your Guide to the New Toll & Fare Hikes

NEW YORK On Sunday, MetroCard fare increases kick in for subways and city and Westchester Bee-Line buses; tolls will rise at four bridges, including the George Washington Bridge, and the Lincoln and Holland tunnels; and PATH train fares will be higher.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will be implementing higher tolls and fares in March. Here's a timeline of what you can expect.

Details of All Proposed Toll & Fare Hikes

On March 1:

Metro-North

  • Metro-North Railroad tickets will go up about 4 percent. West of Hudson NJ Transit riders, except for those who use the Suffern station, will see similar increases because NJ Transit contracts with Metro-North to provide train service. Riders on Long Island Rail Road, another MTA commuter service, will also pay more.

    On March 2:

    Bridges & Tunnels

  • On the George Washington Bridge, Lincoln Tunnel, Holland Tunnel, Goethals Bridge, Outerbridge Crossing and Bayonne Bridge, cash tolls will rise to $8, up from $6. E-ZPass tolls will be $8 during peak hours (6 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. weekdays, and from noon to 8 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays), up from $5. During off-peak, tolls will be $6, up from $4. Discount toll for preregistered carpools with three or more people will rise to $2 from $1. Tunnel and bridge drivers using low-emission vehicles with E-ZPass during off-peak hours will pay a $4 toll with a "GreenPass," no increase from the current rate.

    PATH Train

  • Daily PATH commuters who use the 10-, 20- or 40-ride fare card will see an increase to $1.30 per ride, up from $1.20, to $13, $26, and $52 respectively. Cash fares go to $1.75, from $1.50.

    NYC SUBWAYS

  • Base fare remains $2 for New York City subways and buses and Bee-Line buses. The express bus fare stays at $5. The unlimited ride one-, seven- and 30-day MetroCards goes to $7.50, $25 and $81. A 14-day unlimited ride MetroCard will be available for $47. The seven-day Express Bus Plus MetroCard remains at $41.
