Teen charged in BB gun attack

Victim lost sight in his eye
ORANGE COUNTY The victim, 56-year-old man Michael Piacente, has lost sight in one eye after the BB became lodged behind it.

"I can see with my good eye...100 percent," he said. "With my other eye, I see nothing."

Police say 17-year-old Michael Miller and four other teens were riding in a car on Saturday when Miller fired a BB gun at the man, who was walking his dog.

"I looked up, something hit my eye," he said. "It felt like my eye was on fire."

The pellet hit the victim, burying itself in his eye, which doctors say might have to be removed.

"It's beyond senseless," Middletown police lieutenant Paul Rickard said. "It's just a poor guy walking his dog, and they think they're going to have fun at his expense."

Miller is charged with first-degree assault. He is being held on $10,0000 bail.

"There's no respect for life," Piacente said. "You can't go around shooting people."
