NEW YORK This year's 13.1 mile run through New York City takes place on Sunday July 27th.

This is the races third year, and Channel 7 is a proud sponsor of the event.

Applications are available online at www.nyrr.org.

Applications for the lottery from both U.S. and international participants will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2008. Its results will be posted by Friday, May 30. Entry fees for runners accepted through the lottery (as well as guaranteed entrants) will be $70 for New York Road Runners members and $75 for non-members. International entrants will be charged $100.

On a course designed to celebrate New York City, the NYC Half-Marathon Presented by NIKE will take runners on a loop through Central Park, down Seventh Avenue through Times Square, across 42nd Street, and along the expansive West Side Highway to Battery Park in the heart of the city's financial district, finishing with a view of the Statue of Liberty.

More than 17,000 people applied to the 2007 event, and nearly 10,000 people finished the race.

Long-distance legend Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopia won the 2007 race in stunning fashion, completing the course in 59:24, more than a minute ahead of second-place finisher Abdi Abdirahman of the United States.

Robert Cheruiyot of Kenya, the 2006-07 World Marathon Majors champion, finished third. On the women's side, Kenyan Hilda Kibet bested defending champion Catherine Ndereba, also of Kenya, and Nina Rillstone of New Zealand to win in 1:10:32.
