Police-involved shooting under investigation

LONG ISLAND Nassau County police received a call just before 6 a.m. that a man was assaulting a woman with a baseball bat at the Francis Lewis Bakery on Hempstead Turnpike.

Before police arrived, that man allegedly shattered the bakery's window to enter the premises while a female employee was opening the store.

Police say the worker ran out and called her boss. Authorities say the boss arrived and was confronted by the suspect, who was armed with a knife.

Police say when they arrived on the scene, they repeatedly ordered the suspect to drop the knife, but he refused.

As a result, the suspect was shot by police an unknown number of times. He was then taken to Franklin General Hospital, where he died.
