Fire rips through Queens furniture store

Six firefighters injured

A third-alarm fire tore through a furniture factory in the College Point section of Queens.Eyewitness News is told the fire broke out in the large factory, where furniture is manufactured and refinished, at 18-44 College Point Boulevard just before 11 p.m. last night.

Heavy smoke poured out of the factory as flames tore through the structure.

Officials say six firefighters were hurt, some of them burned. They were taken to various hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

Residents of two apartments about the factory were also treated for injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. College Point Boulevard was closed between 14th and 26th avenues.
