There is good news Wednesday for the plugged-in. The waiting area for Long Island Rail Road customers at Penn Station has provided wireless access to the Internet.

A LIRR spokesman said the waiting room went Wi-Fi just before Wednesday's rush hour.

LIRR president Helena Williams said many customers were using their notebook computers as they waited for trains, so going Wi-Fi in the waiting room was the next step.

Gerard Bringmann, who chairs the Long Island Rail Road commuter's council called having Wi-Fi to the LIRR waiting room a nice little "extra" for riders.
