A man apparently shot his estranged girlfriend in the lobby of her apartment building in the Longwood section of the Bronx -- and then turned the gun on himself. Newscopter-7 was live over the scene.

Police say 55-year-old Marcus Rivera opened fire inside the lobby of his victim inside 745 East 152 Street just after 7 a.m. this morning. The estranged girlfriend, 53-year-old Carmen Vega, was hit in the jaw.

Rivera then reportedly turned the gun on himself, shooting himself in the head. He was rushed to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at around noon.

Officials say Vega was listed in critical but stable condition. Rivera's .38 caliber handgun was recovered at the scene.

Vega was described as a well-liked, long-time resident of the building.
