Starbucks: No so fast on calorie counts

Starbucks will await NYC deadline
NEW YORK The coffee giant said earlier this week that it would post the calorie data by Monday, though a city deadline for doing so has been postponed until April 15.

But Starbucks said Friday it would comply with the rule when it takes effect.

A restaurant trade group has sued to challenge the requirement, which applies mainly to national chain restaurants. The city Health Department says a court ruling is expected within about two weeks.

Health officials say the measure will fight obesity. The New York State Restaurant Association says the city is violating eateries' free-speech rights by requiring what's essentially a message on their menus.
