Princeton reports record low admission rate

PRINCETON Princeton says it's accepting 1,976 applicants -- or 9.25 percent of the more than 21,000 applying for undergraduate slots in the class of 2012.

The university's admission dean describes the percentage as the "most selective in Princeton's history."

Harvard University recently announced its undergraduate college was offering admission to 7.1 percent of applicants. Yale is admitting 8.3 percent. Both rates are also record lows.

Admissions deans and high school counselors tell The New York Times that a growing number of high school graduates, and the ease of applying online, have made admissions more competitive.
