A parent of a classmate said her son overheard that the suspect had a gun in school.
School security say they found the weapon, a .25 caliber semi-automatic, inside the boy's bag. The handgun was not loaded.
Charges and disciplinary proceedings against the boy are pending.
There are no medical detectors at the school.
