Hundreds of guests at a recent Rockland County wedding are being warned to watch out for signs of measles. The warning comes days after officials on Long Island said an infected baby may have exposed thousands of mall shoppers to the highly infectious disease.

The Rockland County Health Department says a man who had measles was at an April 1 event at the Atrium Plaza Grand Ballroom in Spring Valley. Atrium Plaza representatives did not immediately return a telephone call early Thursday.

Health Commissioner Dr. Joan Facelle says the patient recently flew into the United States. She wouldn't say where he had traveled from.

New York City health officials are advising residents traveling abroad to make sure they are vaccinated against the disease, which can be fatal.

Symptoms include:

  • Runny nose
  • Cough
  • Fever
  • Watery eyes
  • Red blotchy rash
