Haverstraw-Yonkers ferry being reduced

NEW YORK Operators of the Haverstraw to Yonkers ferry, which then goes to Lower Manhattan, say beginning May 1 the 40-trip book and 10-trip book will drop 20 percent.

Prices for one-way fares will drop 17 percent.

New York Water Taxi, which runs the ferry, says the price decrease is intended to attract more riders. Last month, just 10 people on average took the 149-seeat ferry from Haverstraw. Then another 44 people boarded in Yonkers, before the run to Lower Manhattan.

The ferry needs 65 to 100 riders daily to be considered a success in its first year.
