Man, paralyzed in accident, walks again

LONG ISLAND A young man, completely paralyzed in a car crash three months ago will walk out of the hospital tomorrow on his own.

They are baby steps taken by a 20-year-old who's lived a lifetime in just the last three months.

Watching Adrian Gordon take those small steps is a very big thing to everyone at Southside Hospital in Bayshore Long Island.

On January 9th, Adrian was in a horrible car accident. He was in the backseat, not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown through the window and paralyzed from the neck down.

"I told her (his mom) I really felt like I was going to die, and she told me no, don't say that," said Adrian.

Dr. Chris Overby performed the spinal fusion surgery and Adrian began to heal, but not before one very dark night with his mother by his side. "He fractured his spine and dislocated the spine," said Dr. Overby. "I started to tell myself there are still things I want to do in life, and places I want to go and if I want to do it, I have to walk," adds Adrian.

Three months later and hundreds of hours of physical therapy the former Mount Vernon High School track star is walking again, and keeping a promise he made to god.

"If you can get me up, I'll try my best to be a much better person," said Adrian.
