Man arrested for burglary in Freeport

Nassau County First Square detectives report the arrest of a Freeport man for a burglary that occurred in Freeport on Tuesday at 12:40 p.m.Detectives report that Carlos Martinez, 35, of 95 North Columbus Avenue, Apt. 9, entered the 35-year-old woman's Freeport home on Columbus Avenue and did assault the victim while she was asleep in her bedroom.

Martinez strangled the victim and struck her with a closed fist in the head and face. Martinez then fled the scene.

The victim went to the Freeport Police Department and reported the assault. She had bruises and abrasions on the front and back of her neck, but declined medical treatment.

Nassau County police First Squad Det. Michelle Clifford arrested Martinez at his home, charging him with first-degree burglary and assault. He faces arraignment in First District Court, Hempstead, later today.
