NJ Turnpike, GSP gas prices spiked

NEW JERSEY The price of a gallon of regular gas rose to $3.39 at stations along the two roadways, up from $3.17.

Gas is cheapest along the Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway because their service areas, by law, can only change the price of gas once a week.

That has shielded motorists from fluctuations driving pump prices into record territory.

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority surveys 100 gas stations, located off the highway, every Wednesday and Thursday to determine an average price. The service area per-gallon cost cannot be more than 3 cents above that average price.

The $3.17 per gallon price was the cheapest in the Garden State.
