About 9 million Americans have their identities stolen every year, and this weekend, the Department of Consumer Affairs wants to help protect New Yorkers from becoming victims. In Columbus Circle Thursday, the city announced its plans for the first ever "Shred Fest NYC."

New Yorkers are encouraged to bring, and watch, all their documents with personal information to be shredded up instead of thrown away.

"Shred Fest NYC" takes place Sunday at various locations throughout the five boroughs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
