Mammograms for Mother's Day

NEW YORK The New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) annual Mother's Day Mammogram Campaign raises awareness about breast cancer and educates New York City residents, especially multicultural communities about breast cancer prevention and the importance of early detection.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death among women in the United States. Mammograms are the best method to detect breast cancer early when it is easier to treat and before it is big enough to feel or cause symptoms.

It is estimated that about 40,480 women will die from breast cancer in the United States this year. According to the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, breast cancer kills about 1,260 New Yorkers each year still 23% of women over 40 and older have not had a recent mammogram. Having regular mammograms can lower the risk of dying from breast cancer. Women age 40 or older should get a mammogram every year.

Mammograms are offered at HHC facilities at little or no cost. If you have no health insurance, we can help. Just speak to a Financial Counselor located in our facilities. Our staff speaks multiple languages and we offer full translation services.
