Man killed fleeing assault

Authorities say a man in his 20s was trying to escape an assault when he was struck and killed on a Long Island street. Nassau County homicide detectives say the incident happened at about 4:30 a.m. Friday in Hempstead. The man was being assaulted by two people when he ran into traffic and was struck by a 2005 Toyota.

No charges have been filed against the driver.

The name of the victim has not been released.

Police have not disclosed what happened to the two people involved in the assault.
