Teen tries to pass baking soda as cocaine

CONNECTICUT Police were acting on a tip Thursday that a student was in possession of cocaine. They went to the high school and searched him. Police say they found 18 packets of a white powder substance ready for sale.

Capt. Ronald Smith says a test of the substance indicated the student was attempting to sell baking soda.

The 16-year-old from New Haven is charged with misrepresentation of a narcotic. He's scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Meriden May 6.
