-----CHIC-----

The fifth annual Starlight Ball at the Ross school is next month. It raises money for the Steven Ross scholarship fund, which enables 46 percent of Ross school students to receive some form of financial aid.

This year's featured entertainer--- chic, with Nile Rodgers. He's joining us this morning.

How did Nile get to know the Ross School?
Last summer Nile produced a concert series at the Ross School and, as he says, "got caught up in their vibe." Of particular interest for him was the fact that the Ross School has a high percentage (over 40%) of scholarship students attending the school. Ross School is committed to making sure all children have the opportunity to receive a world-class educational experience. Ross currently serves 560 students from all over the world on two beautiful campuses in Bridgehampton and East Hampton. The School website is www.ross.org. The set for the night of the event will be about 45 minutes long.

What is Nile Rodgers doing now?
About 50% of Nile's time is spent doing charity/philanthropic work and the other half is spent on big blockbuster projects like films and video games. He has his own charity called the "We Are Family Foundation," named after the song he wrote. It's a multicultural foundation formed after the attacks on September 11th.

How did he become such a dedicated philanthropist?
He was born in New York City and the first thing he did was become a cub scout. That taught him to do good for others.

What about "Le Freak" made it such a spectacular hit?
Nile says that it was the right song at the right time in pop culture - it was the only song ever to go #1 three times. It was originally a "protest song"- composed when Nile was denied admittance to Studio 54. He was able to flip the song to ultimately have a positive message. Nile's songs are about having fun - and they all begin with a chorus.

Is Chic still performing?
Yes, to nearly one million people a year, mostly in Europe and Asia and private gigs. The only time this year that Chic will be performing in the New York this year will be at the Ross School's "Starlight Ball" and Nile's own "We are Family Foundation" Gala.

    -----XANADU-----

It's just a roller skating journey back to the 1980s. Xanadu on Broadway just celebrated its 300th performance at the Helen Hayes theatre on 44th Street in midtown.

It's also just been nominated for the outer critics circle award for best Broadway musical. Joining us this morning is Cheyenne Jackson, who plays sonny Malone.

But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds.

This hilarious, roller skating, musical adventure about following your dreams despite the limitations others set for you, rolls along to the original hit score composed by pop-rock legends Jeff Lynne and John Farrar, and includes, "Magic", "All Over The World", "Suddenly", "I'm Alive", "Evil Woman", "Have You Never Been Mellow" and "Xanadu", to name a few, and is based on the Universal Pictures' cult classic movie of the same title, which starred Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly.

It's hilarity on wheels for adults, children and anyone who has ever wanted to feel inspired, as one of Broadway's master storytellers, Douglas Carter Beane, weaves a moving, electrifying tale of endless fun that will keep you in stitches, while the original, legendary chart-topping tunes lift you out of your seat. You'll want to keep the music in your head, and Xanadu in your heart, forever.

From "All Shook Up", Jackson soared to Hollywood and starred in the feature film "Flight 93". His film debut was in the taut and edgy independent short film "Curiosity". Cheyenne originated the lead role in the off Broadway hit "Alterboyz- A part he gave up when producers from Miramax asked him to star in "All Shook Up". Cheyenne currently stars as Sonny in the hit musical comedy XANADU playing at the Helen Hayes Theatre. -----SMOOTH SHAPES-----

With swimsuit season around the corner, you're probably taking a closer look at your body. And if you've discovered some unwanted cellulite, we have some tips.

Joining us this morning is Dr. cheryl Karcher with Sadick dermatology. You're the exclusive dermatologist for the Miss Universe organization.

    What is cellulite?
Cellulite is a skin condition that results from enlarged fat cells trapped in a brittle network of collagen located in the hypodermis.

    Can it be cured?
Cellulite can't be controlled or improved by diet or exercise. The causes of cellulite include gender differences in skin between men and women, hormones, vascularity and genetics. Although these underlying causes can never be completely "cured" SmoothShapes can provide improvements in the appearance of cellulite with longer lasting results than any other treatment.

What are some options that consumers have to fight cellulite?
    Diet
    Exercise
    Creams
    Dermatologist consults

How did Dr Karcher find the SmoothShapes treatment?
Patients of every age are concerned about this problem, but until recently there have only been a few treatments. And those required numerous office visits which often caused both pain and bruising. Even after initial results were seen, patients were required to continue ongoing monthly or quarterly treatments as long as they wish to maintain result. For Dr. Karcher and many others, these programs were not efficient or logical solutions. After initial SmoothShapes treatments with treatments, SmoothShapes only needs maintenance once to twice a year. Dr. Karcher learned about SmoothShapes following the 2008 American Academy of Dermatology Annual Conference

    How does SmoothShapes work?
SmoothShapes works with a proprietary technology called Photomology™ which is a combination of laser and light energy, contoured roller and vacuum. The treatment uses dynamic laser and light energy to liquefy fat in adipose cells and improve skin texture. Collagen is regenerated, circulation is improved and metabolic processes are restored. The contoured rollers and vacuum massage assist in moving the liquefied fat out through the lymphatic system with a soothing massage that smoothes the appearance of skin. Results from the treatments provide longer lasting cellulite improvement that women can see.

    Why does SmoothShapes work?
Thermal and non-destructive, Photomology's unique mechanism of action combines dynamic laser and light energy with manual manipulation (i.e., mechanical massage) and vacuum to specifically affect the tissue components responsible for the appearance of cellulite-engorged fat cells and inflexible fibrous septae or collagen.

    Do topical creams work?
Topical creams are not a cure for cellulite. They may not have the ability to specifically impact the adipose cell. But for many, they present a temporary, more affordable surface solution.

Before seeing clinical care for cellulite, what are some at home options that consumers can use?
Sisley Phyto Sculptural . It retails for $141 at Saks Fifth Avenue
Sisley Celluli Pro $192 available at Saks Fifth Avenue
Lipotensin Serum $76 can be purchased on the internet or at the dermatologist without a prescription
Glytone Body $120 can be purchased on the internet or at the dermatologist without a prescription
VICHY - Lipometric Contour Refining Intensive Care- $35 can be purchased online or at the drug store
Lytess Slimming Bike Shorts $49.95 available online

Where on the body can SmoothShapes be used?
The legs, arms, buttocks, abdomen, knees, upper or lower back and hips

    Does the treatment hurt?
The treatments feel like a warm, soothing massage

    Does SmoothShapes require anesthesia?
No, treatments with SmoothShapes do not require anesthesia

    Is there down time? No
Optimum results are achieved with eight treatments, twice a week for four weeks but cellulite has shown improvement with other schedules of eight complete treatment

    Are there side effects?
Potential side effects include tingling, redness and in very rare cases swelling and bruising

    What is the cost?
A series of eight SmoothShapes treatments costs approximately $2,000 - $4,000 depending on number of areas treated
