Police chase ends in horrific collision

An overnight police chase ended with a crash in Newark -- and a police officer forced to open fire. Eyewitness News reporter Jamie Roth has more on the story.

It started out as a police chase and ended in a traumatic accident -- 3 people were hurt and one person was arrested.

Police say a stolen SUV crashed into a Pontiac. The SUV flipped on its side and police had to cut the roof off the red Pontiac to get three people out. They were taken to Newark's University Hospital.

The crash happened at Frel. and Victoria Avenues in Newark, but the police chase started in Hillside, New Jersey.

Police arrested one person from the stolen SUV.

Eyewitness News is told one officer open fired in the initial stages of the chase over in Hillside, but no one was hit.
