Pooper Scooper scofflaws double in NYC

NEW YORK The city sanitation department says 775 tickets have been given since last July to people who did not clean up the dog poop left by Fido. That's more than double the 327 tickets given for the same period last year.

The fines, which are as high as $100, have brought in nearly $29,000 to the city this year.

Sanitation Commissioner John Doherty says he has 15 officers assigned to dog poop patrol. He expects more tickets with the warm weather prompting dog owners to take longer walks with their pets and there's more daylight hours to spot offenders.
