Minivan plunges into the Bronx River

BRONX Police say the 18-year-old driver, James Mulligan, crashed his 2007 Subaru into a minivan on northbound highway, near East Gun Hill Road, just before 1:30 a.m.

The force of the collision sent to the other vehicle careening out of control into the Bronx River.

The driver of that minivan was rescued from the water. He was taken to North Central Bronx Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Mulligan, of Yonkers, was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Divers searched the Bronx River for other possible victims, but none were found.
