Man accused of stealing from church

A 20-year-old Long Island man is accused of stealing cash from poor boxes at a West Islip church. Suffolk County police say the man stole more than $20 on two separate occasions from a poor box taken from the lobby of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.

However, police were able to track down the alleged thief after reviewing surveillance cameras that captured each incident.

The man, from West Babylon is charged with two counts of petit larceny and two counts of criminal mischief. He's expected to be arraigned later today in Central Islip.
