Suspect charged in off-duty cop shooting

Police say an off-duty officer was wounded as he walked his dog down a Bronx street after an altercation ended in gunfire.Police say 26-year-old Michael Williams threatened the officer just after 12:30 a.m. Friday. They say Williams initially walked away, but returned a short time later with a 9mm handgun and fired numerous times.

The officer returned fire.

Police say a bullet grazed the officer's head. He is hospitalized in stable condition. Williams was not hurt.

Williams is disputing the officer's version of events, saying the officer threatened his life first.

Williams has been arrested on charges including attempted murder and assaulting a police officer.
