Newark slayings suspect gets 8 years in seperate case

Three friend were murdered in a Newark school playground last summer
NEWARK Jose Carranza was found guilty of aggravated assault and weapons charges in connection with a bar fight in West Orange in 2006.

A judge sentenced Carranza to two four-year consecutive terms for each of the victims he and two other men were accused of assaulting.

Carranza has been in jail on $2 million bail since being arrested last August on charges stemming from the killing of the three college students.

At the time of the killings, the 28-year-old illegal immigrant was free on bail for the assault charge and for a separate child rape charge.
