Satisfy your cookie cravings

NEW YORK Just as you can get many things delivered in New York City, you can get sweet treats fresh out of the oven.

And they deliver late at night.

Eyewitness News reporter Lauren Glassberg has more on the service.

Surprisingly, this company didn't actually start in Manhattan, where so many restaurants deliver. Instead, it started on a college campus. And now, it's satiating sweet tooths in the NYU area and Greenwich Village, as well.

"When I decided to launch the business, I had no cookie experience, no baking experience, no product experience," Seth Berkowitz said. "It was an interesting way to start."

Berkowitz may not have known the first thing about cookies, but he knew that college kids would gobble them up.

Especially if they were delivered to their dorms, like pizza.

And from his own dorm at the University of Pennsylvania, Seth launched Insomnia Cookies.

"I was literally delivering the cookies myself, baking them, taking the orders, driving around," he said.

That was five years ago. Now, 12 college campuses are home to Insomnia Cookies. NYU's campus has been served for about a year. And there's a shop to go with it.

"This is a fantastic area for us, because of NYU, because of the traffic from the subway stop," he said. "We're ready to expand, but we're going to take it slowly so we can make sure we do it right."

And here's how they do it. There's the walk-in business, and there are the late-night deliveries from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m., that are powered by the munchies.

The minimum delivery is six cookies. And yes, it's mostly college students ordering.

There are cookies and brownies in a variety of flavors for whatever your needs might be.

It's not for the calorie-conscious, but that's not the point.

"We're not trying to come up with a diet cookie or any kind of special cookies," he said. "We have delicious cookies, served warm and that's it."

It is a limited area of delivery, for now, but they do plan to open more Insomnia Cookie stores to expand their delivery zone.
