2 arrested in NJ cop shooting in Bahamas

BAHAMAS Acting Commissioner Raymond Gibson said Monday the men have been detained as suspects in the shooting of 49-year-old Bergenfield Police Officer John Casper. No charges have yet been filed.

Casper was shot during an attempted robbery as he and several relatives walked near the home of former Bahamian Prime Minister Perry Christie.

A member of Christie's security detail commandeered a passing vehicle and took the wounded officer to the hospital. He was reported in stable condition Monday and was expected to return soon to New Jersey.

The New Jersey State Policemen's Benevolent Association planned a news conference Tuesday in the Bahamas to thank local authorities for their efforts in the case.
