Two Long Island residents have been charged with stealing a dead woman's house and selling it. Nassau County police say a 49-year-old West Hempstead woman forged the deed to a single-family home in Roosevelt in December 2006, transferring ownership from the dead woman to herself.

They say in January 2007 the title and deed for the property were transferred to a 48-year-old Roosevelt man for a sale price of $65,000. They say the man then resold the property in May 2007 for $190,000.

A relative of the dead woman discovered the home heist.

Police say the man and the woman involved in the scam are charged with grand larceny, possession of a forged instrument, identity theft and falsifying business records. They're scheduled for arraignment Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
