No evidence of a gun was found after a search of two schools placed on lockdown Thursday.According to authorities, the action was prompted by a report by students that they saw two other students in the bathroom with a gun around 8:50 a.m.

Authorities were searching both the middle and high school, which are at the same location, and questioning students.

Worried parents gathered outside the schools waiting for more information.

The following message was posted on the school Web site:
The following is an important announcement from the Manhasset Public Schools: The Secondary School building is currently in lock down. Parents will not be permitted in the building. We are currently investigating a report by a student observing two students with a gun in the boys' lavatory at around 8:50 a.m. The situation is calm, the Nassau County Police and the Sheriff's department have responded and are on site and are in control of the investigation. Phone calls into the school at this time will impede the progress of the investigation at hand. We will provide further updates as the situation warrants. Thank you.

Students were released from school at regular dismissal time.
