Con Ed sues NYC and repair company

NEW YORK Consolidated Edison Corp. has already been named in more than 40 lawsuits following the July 18 explosion near Grand Central Terminal. A woman died of a heart attack and dozens of people were injured.

Con Ed's lawsuit filed Thursday says that Team Industrial Services Inc. mistakenly injected sealant into the steam system while repairing a leak in the 83-year-old pipe, clogging it before the blast.

The utility says water from nearby city sewer and pipelines accumulated outside the steam pipe, also contributing to the blast.

The city hasn't commented yet on the lawsuit. A Team Industrial lawyer hasn't returned a message.
