Eyewitness News reporter Lucy Yang has the story.
The victim is a nurse, who devoted her life to caring for the elderly at a nursing home. Now, she is the one in need of medical attention, with a bullet wound to the leg.
It happened outside of a parking garage on East 107th Street, between 5th and Madison avenues. At 12:35 p.m., police say a 64-year-old woman was on the sidewalk, enjoying the weather, when her world was shattered by gunfire. Authorities say two men had been arguing on the sidewalk when the nurse came outside for her lunch break.
One of the men pulled out a gun and started firing. Officials say the nurse was shot in the leg and rushed to St. Luke's Hospital.
The two men fled the scene.
The victim is suspected to survive. Authorities are hoping surveillance video from the parking garage will lead them to the shooter.
