Prank leads to school lockdown
STAFFORD, N.J. -
According to the Southern Regional School District web site, the incident that prompted an active lockdown "was the result of a middle school student prank. The student is in custody."
The district's high school and middle school were placed on lockdown following the threat, which was received at 12:10 p.m.
Barnegat schools also went into lockdown as of 12:45 p.m. as a precautionary measure.
Police took the student into custody just before 1:30. The lockdown was then lifted.
